Making Magnificent Mandalas at Road to California

Mandala Makers of Road to California

This week, I am excited to be teaching at Road to California, starting with an amazing day of Magnificent Mandalas.  Today's Mandala Makers came from all over: Arizona, California, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Washington!
Morning Mandala Doodles

In the morning, we warmed up with a variety of doodling exercises, leading up to a spectacular array of mandala designs.

By lunchtime, we were switching to the Viking Sapphire 965Q sewing machines, generously provided by OC Sewing & Vacuum.  Special thanks to our amazing Viking educator/machine guru Deb for leading a wonderful orientation to the various machine features/settings, and for providing exceptional technical support for the workshop participants!  And special thanks to Aurifil for providing a brilliant range of 50wt threads for each participant!

After lunch, mandalas were starting to grow and bloom all around the classroom.  Here are some action shots of our Magnificent Mandala Makers and their spectacular, original mandala quilts...

Towards the end of the day, a number of stunning transformations began to occur through careful cutwork!! Wow!  Wow!  Wowza!!  Fantastic progress and absolutely beautiful work done by all!  What an amazing start to my week at Road to California!! Stay tuned for more R2CA postings!!
