Many thanks to the wonderful folks at Meissner's Sewing & Vacuum Centers for providing the Bernina 480 machines for participant use, along with friendly assistance and quality service, especially our classroom expert Jody!! The Bernina 480s have Jumbo bobbins, which provided many hours of uninterrupted quilting fun!!
There were quite a few quilters who were brand new to free-motion quilting, as well as a few who were looking to up their pebbling game!! And guess what?!? Everyone made spectacular progress over the course of the day. It is always fun to watch their quilt sandwiches fill with beautiful pebble designs!! Just check out all their quilted samples!!
But wait--there's more Pebble & Play! progress!
Participants could choose to use the open toe free motion foot or try out the Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR). BSRs are pretty amazing as they automatically adjust the speed of the stitching to keep up with the movement of the quilt sandwich: Training wheels for free-motion quilting. One participant started out using the BSR in the morning and made such great progress, that she challenged herself to switch to using a regular darning foot after lunch. That first pebble was a bit wobbly and she was tempted to switch back to using the BSR. But guess what--with just a bit more practice, her subsequent pebbles kept getting better and better! After only a minute or two, her stitches were just as smooth and even as when she was using the BSR. How is that for amazing results and progress!!
