Week 11: Blocks
|
'Tis time for catching on my weekly updates and refections on my 100 Day Project of daily designs by dice. Here are blocks 71 through 77 with their correspondong dice rolls, my personal reflections, and accompanying quotes.
|
Block 71/100 |
- Solid fabrics ranging from a warm yellow-orange to red-violet were used for the analogous color scheme.
- Two columns of spikey triangles flank the outer strips of metallic gold, yielding an assymetrical, yet balanced composition. Smaller triangles, including some metallic gold bits dance and float between the triangle spikes.
- "You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world." -Oprah Winfrey
|
Block 72/100 |
- Bright lime greens with a few pops of black and white were used for this neutral plus 1 color scheme. Floating green on green strips were sprinkled through the background.
- Interlocking trianges are emphasized with the skinny black & white strips and surrounding solid black strips.
- "I suppose it's like the ticking crocodile, isn't it? Time is chasing after all of us."-James M. Barrie, Author of Peter Pan
|
Block 73/100 |
- A variety of blue prints and solids were used to create this monochromatic floral design.
- The large petals are lighter in value and draw focus. A row of dark navy strips create a border along the right edge.
- "Where flowers bloom, so does hope." -Lady Bird Johnson
|
Block 74/100 |
- Two long skinny strips of the chevron print reminded me of pants--and the next thing I knew I was designing an entire ensemble (while totally rocking the #covidcomfy look in real life, complete with yoga pants!!)
- A variety of teal prints & patterns were used to meet the monochromatic color scheme and texture assignments.
- My little fashionista is dressed up and appears to be on the go...creating the illusion of movement.
- "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak." -Rachel Zoe, American Fashion Designer
|
Block 75/100 |
- A variety of warm gold, red-violet, and teal fabrics were used for this triadic color scheme.
- An assortment of bowls, in varying sizes and shapes, are stacked into three columns. Different fabric prints and combinations were used to create the patterning on each bowl.
- This design was inspired by my sudden and totally irrational urge to organize the kitchen cupboards, despite several looming deadlines!! And now I totally want to find bowls as pretty as these to adorn my organized cabinets!!
- "Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony." -Thomas Merton, American writer, theologian, and scholar

Change of Plans for New Background Squares
|
It was time to choose a new background fabric for the remaining quarter. Iniitally I pulled a Pointillist Palette ombre ranging from medium grey to dark black for the background. After cutting it all up, I started to realize that most of the squares were super dark and there was some redundancy with Blocks 26-50 which used a grey to nearly black background. So I swapped it out for a different Pointillist Palette print featuring light blue to dark navy.
|
Block 76/100
|
- Grey solid strips were fused to create the slightly wonky ladder rungs and sides.
- Die-cut heart shapes were cut into floating clouds that dance along the blue background.
- "Go higher and higher, until it becomes impossible to bring you down, I wanna use a microscope to locate you, don't even dream of coming down."-Michael Bassey Johnson, Nigerian playwright and poet
|
Block 77/100
|
- Analagous yellows, golds, oranges, and red-orange fabrics in both solids and printed patterns, were used to create large oval rings that float above in the sky. The smaller inserts were lined up along the bottom of the composition.
- What was important wasn't the fireworks, it was that we were together this evening, together in this place, looking up into the sky at the same time." -Banana Yoshimoto, Japanese novelist
And there you have another fun week of collection of #dicedesigns Let the daily fun continue...
