As I reflect on this week's collection of Dice Doodles, I am struck by how this project is turning into a stitched journal; capturing the events of my life and the world. Enjoy...

The Air Quality has significantly improved here in San Jose, which meant open windows, neighborhood walks, sunshine, and blue skies!!
"Blue Skies" was playing in my head after seeing a friend's Facebook post:
"Blue skiesSmiling at meNothing but blue skiesDo I see"
Written by Irving Berlin in 1926 and performed over the years by many artists: Belle Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson & Kenny Rogers, and Star Trek Next Generation's Commander Data.

Today's text-inspired dice doodle celebrates Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. It was on this day, September 17th,1787 that members of the US Constitution Convention signed the Constitution.
You can celebrate by reading the US Constitution and researching the process of becoming a US citizen.

Stitched in honor of the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 1993-2020 Supreme Court of the United States Justice and her inspirational quote:
"Dissents speak to a future age. It's not simply to say, 'My colleagues are wrong and I would do it this way.' But the greatest dissents do become court opinions and gradually over time their views become the dominant view. So that's the dissenter's hope: that they are writing not for today, but for tomorrow."
-Ruth Bader Ginsburg
For some reason I had it in my head that today's roll was to be inspired by music, so I included the song "Here Comes the Change" from the motion picture "On the Basis of Sex" which is based on the life of Ruth Vader Ginsburg:
"Oh it's hard I know it's hardTo be the right inside the wrongHold on tight we'll be alrightYou know it's timeOh here comes the changeOh we're comin' of ageThis is not a phaseHere comes here comes the change"-Performed by Kesha, Written by Drew Pearson, Kesha Sebert, and Stephen Wrabel
Two interesting notes about stitching this square:
- To make my circle template, I reached into the recycling bin and found a flyer with the word Serving on it, which I thought was a wonderful connection to Ruth's years of service to fight for change.
- By stitching the Blue Skies in the wrong box meant that the Ruth's block would be adjacent to the US Constitution block (vs. the start of a new row). Again, fitting given that all Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States must take The Constitutional Oath:
“I, _________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Dance Party!!! In celebration of National Dance Day, I doodled some of my favorite iconic dance moves. Pump up the music, put on your dancing shoes, and see if you can guess all that 7 doodles inspired by dances featured in movies, music videos, and performances (answers will be posted at the end of this post).

I was running low on energy this morning but rallied for a yoga session...and wow did it work wonders for my body, mind, and heart!!
It reminded me of a Romper Room song..."Bend and Stretch"
"Bend and stretch, reach for the starsThere goes Jupiter, here comes MarsBend and stretch, reach for the skyStand on tip-toes, oh so high!
Treat yourself to a stretch session (even just 5 minutes will help) and reach for those stars!

Today is International Day of Peace, first established by unanimous United Nations resolution in 1981. This day is a time for humanity to lay down their weapons in a 24-hr global ceasefire and contribute towards building a culture of Peace.
The photos were taken during my February visit to see "Big Peace IV" by Tony Labat on display at the Oakland Museum of CA.

“Every election is determined by the people who show up.”― Larry J. Sabato , American political scientist and political analyst
Today is National Voter Registration Day. This is your friendly reminder to prepare for November 3rd Election Day.
- Learn about your voter rights and requirements
- Check that you are registered
- Be informed about how to cast your ballot by mail and/or available locations for in-person voting
I am thankful that Santa Clara County makes it easy to vote and even sends out I Voted Stickers!!
