FUN & Games in Quilting! Plus a Giveaway!

One of my goals is to add some FUN to 2021! My new FUN & Games in Quilting lecture made its debut in mid May for the Denver Metro Modern Quilt Guild. I thought I would share a few sneak peeks of this playful new lecture/trunk show...

Naturally, I raided my collection of fun and games during the presentation preparations...

...including my title slides.

Throughout the lecture/trunk show, I share some of the playful strategies used in my quiltmaking. Of course, dice make several appearances thanks to their role in my 100 day projects...

I share how I frequently create my own games using fabric...

And quilting is even more awesome when Lego minifigures and bricks are involved.

Speaking of dice and Lego, each lecture/trunk show concludes with a little game in which the winner receives a small prize featuring some of the fun & games showcased throughout the presentation:
  • Mini deck of playing cards
  • Lego featherweight sewing machine, 4-patch block, and notions
  • Pair of dice

If you'd like to be entered to win a FUN & Games prize pack, leave a comment below or contact me by June 13th to share some of your favorite games/memories playing games. I'll draw and message the winner. If you are a no-reply blogger, be sure to check back on June 15th to see if you are the winner! ** Due to shipping considerations, giveaway open to US residents only.

***GIVEAWAY is now closed. Congrats to Mary L for winning the FUN & Games prize pack!***

I am excited to present FUN & Games in Quilting! lecture/trunkshow for these upcoming engagements:
6/16-Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County
6/28-Prairie Star Quilt Guild
8/11-Glendale Quilt Guild

  1. I have always like playing 'UNO'. My family likes Scrabble, but my younger son has found all the hacks for 2 letter words and it has become too easy for him to whip my husband and myself!

    1. UNO is a great game. Alas I need to buy a new set as I used them to make 3 quilts featuring UNO cards. I am not very good at Scrabble myself...maybe I should adopt your son's strategy and study up on letter words.

  2. I have fond memories of jigsaw puzzles. As soon as Thanksgiving was over, we'd expand (if necessary) the dining room table to full length and start a jigsaw puzzle. Even as the youngest of five, I could keep up in puzzles! Also, when my brother and I visited our mother after our first year away (out of state), we 3 had wonderful conversations over a puzzle of...beer bottles! LOL

    1. What wonderful memories. My family gathered frequently to put together jigsaw puzzles. Lately, I've been doing online puzzles but may have to pull out a jigsaw puzzle as I love the feel and sound when the pieces fit together.

  3. Wow! You've taken it to the next level Mel. I love including Lego! Does Mr. D choose the pieces or do you?

    1. Thanks! I had a lot of fun putting this lecture together. Sometimes I involve him in the Lego selection--sometimes I sneak into his collection and hope I don't get caught!

  4. I love all kinds of games and puzzles. Hand and Foot card game and Pickleball are at the top of my list now. As a young girl I was a champion( in my opinion) at Jacks. What you have created is so inspiring and fun. I love it.

    1. I have never played Hand and Foot or Pickleball (but familiar with the latter as a quilting friend got hooked and shared her experiences). I played jacks a few times in my childhood but you probably would have won against me for sure. Thanks for sharing.

  5. One of my favorite games growing up was Yatzee. When I had children, it was still a favorite as it is easy to play with only a couple of people.

    1. I love playing Yahtzee---although it has been a while since I last played!! I certainly have enough dice and a score pad. My mother and I played triple Yahtzee which was great fun. Thanks for sharing!!

  6. When I grew up we had no TV. Yes that long ago! With five sibling we spent many hours playing a wide assortment of game and made puzzles too. I miss those days. I saw you on The Quilt show and would love to have your set of toys to get started on new quilting adventures.

    1. My family voted to disconnect TV cable so games & puzzles were a prime source of entertainment while growing up. My mother and I continue to play whenever we get together. I am delighted to hear you had a chance to watch my segments on TQS.

  7. I have wonderful memories of playing Scrabble with my mother although she did cheat some.

    1. What a fun memory--although now I want to know how she cheated. Thank goodness for a dictionary to check on those made up words that some players try to sneak in. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Great choice. Memory definitely makes an appearance in this lecture as I made a fabric memory game using Michael Miller fabrics back in the Fall 2020.
