Lots of Pebbles at the Beach

Yesterday, I drove down to Aptos, CA for a Pebble & Play workshop with the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild.  I made great time on the drive down and arrived with over an hour until the start of the workshop.  As I exited off the highway, I saw signs for New Brighton State Beach, so this Beach turned right for the beach!
SS Palo Alto
What a beautiful morning, perfect for walking along the beach and exploring.  All along the pathways, I spotted some pretty brilliant blooms...

And there were so many stunning shapes and textures to be discovered along the sandy beach...

After a morning of pebbles along the beach, I was off to a fun day of free-motion quilted pebbles with the fearless quilters of SBAMQG.  What a fabulous venue with lots of natural light, comfortable chairs, spacious tables, white boards for doodling and counter tops to display all my quilt samples.

These accommodations were perfect for a productive day of pebble quilting...

And some more pebble quilting...

 And more!!

As I gauged the class, almost everyone was brand new or very new to free-motion quilting.  By lunchtime, most of the quilters were already onto their second bobbin...and for many, their second quilt sandwich of the day.

Check out all the amazing pebbling progress from just one day...

 Some more brilliant pebble quilting...

And more quilted textures...

And just a few more...

In addition to all the quilt sandwiches transforming with texture, there was another transformation occuring all across the classroom: Quilters were smiling, talking and having fun...lots of fun!  So many of the quilters came up to me in the afternoon to confess that they were sooo scared and/or nervous before the start of the workshop and had even considered cancelling.  They were so happy they stayed because they each saw great progress in their stitching, they no longer feared free-motion quilting and the best of all:  they were enjoying free-motion quilting!!

It's official:  Pebble & Play may just be my new favorite workshop to teach!
