Follow along each month as Michael Miller Fabrics posts the FREE monthly pattern on their Making It Fun blogBlock #1 was unveiled at the end of January and the pattern includes the complete list of fabrics that will be used, along with instructions for cutting and construction using standard rotary cutting or using AccuQuilt's GO! Fabric Cutter and GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block.

I opted to cut out all my units using the GO! Fabric Cutter Friendly set of instructions, and was seriously impressed at how quickly and accurately I was able to cut out all the units I needed for blocks 1, 2, and all 12 block frames. In a little over an hour, I accomplished the following steps:

  • Pressing all the fabric yardage
  • Cut 192 large half-square triangles and 48 squares to assemble block frames for all 12 blocks
  • Cut 25 units for Block 1 (image below)
  • Cut 28 units for Block 2 (which I will be posting on February 28th!)

The AccuQuilt GO! Dies cut out perfect triangles that make it easy to achieve perfect seam allowances, especially when triangles are involved!! Once all the units were laid out, they lined up beautifully making for very accurate piecing and perfect points.

Included in this month's instructions are the Block Frames that will transform each month's block into a 16" finished star. Including the framed units, there are 45 units involved in the construction of this first block. While it is one of the most intricate blocks I've ever assembled, AccuQuilt's GO! Cutting System helped me achieve fantastic results in record time!

There's plenty of time to join Michael Miller Fabrics Peek Into Batiks Monthly Quilt Along. Share your progress as you quilt along!
