Michael Miller Fabrics Peek Into Batiks Quilt Along: Block #2

Products featured in this post were provided by Michael Miller Fabrics and AccuQuilt as part of my being a Michael Miller Brand Ambassador and AccuQuilts GO! Getter Program

Yippee!! It's the last Friday of February, which is my stop for showcasing Block #2 for the Peek Into Batiks Monthly Quilt Along hosted by Michael Miller Fabrics! Each month a new starry block pattern will be unveiled on the Making It Fun Blog. Visit your local quilt shop to stock up on the curated collection of Michael Miller Batiks (see fabric palette above). It's so easy to follow along and make all 12 blocks, as the block patterns include the fabric placement and cutting instructions using standard rotary cutting equipment or the AccuQuilt's GO! Fabric Cutter with GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block.

I am fairly new to the AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutting System, but I am still in awe at how easy it is to cut out super accurate units that piece together perfectly--as I did all my cutting and piecing of Block # 1 and Block #2 in just a few hours. This block may look intimidating with its 48 units to piece, including half-square triangles and flying geese, but cutting out all the units with the AccuQuilt GO! was a total breeze. And look at all those perfect points that were achieved with zero need for pins or the dreaded seam ripper!!

Each 8" block is framed with a squares and half-square triangles to create a Sawtooth Star. The instructions for Block #2 call for using Fabric #5 Multi 2, which is Palm Bloom Indigo, a colorful palm front pattern. Earlier that day, I cut out all the Sawtooth Star frame units needed for all 12 blocks, so I selected 8 half-square triangles that were mostly red to highlight the central pinwheel design.

Just a few more seams and Block #2 is Ta Done!!

    1. Thanks Ann...I don't usually do such intricate piecing but it's nice to know that I can get accurate results. I am hoping the remaining 10 blocks go together smoothly!!
